The Amolar Hills
The Amolar Hills are understood as an area of high priority for conservation by authorities, governmental bodies, research institutions and NGOs. This recognition also properly reflects the understanding and works Ecoa has developed in this region, with campaigns and evaluations for the protection of the Amolar and its communities.According to the biodiversity context and due to this condition of “hot-line” of the Pantanal, the Amolar Hills has a strategic function, for it is the contact point between the Pantanal plain, forests, savannas and the Chiquitano bush lands. The fact of combining a situation in which in its base is the largest flooded plain of the planet, at only 100 meters from the sea level, and altitudes higher than 1,000 meters...
It is different from conventional roads for reasons related mostly to environment values – it crosses four sub-regions of Pantanal: Miranda, Abobral, Nhecolândia e Paraguay. At its final segment, it faces the Urucum ridge. It’s known for being the best region in the country for the observation of birds, mammals and alligators throughout the year, a condition shared with Transpantaneira road, in the state of Mato Grosso. The low water season – from July to December – is the most interesting for several reasons, among them the fact that the fish get trapped in the marginal lakes that are in the process of evaporation, attracting thousands of birds searching for food. Acting in many fronts of biodiversity protection, including environmental education, the Sesc Pantanal Project, kept by the Commerce Social Service, is converted in model of education, preservation, scientific research and eco-tourism.
